The Tyrrell family association with the grape began with Edward Tyrrell in 1858. Tyrrell's has since grown over a century and a half to become one of Australia's most prestigious winemakers.
Their motto, "Nothing is great unless it is good," came with founder Edward Tyrrell and has ever since been the guiding beacon for the Tyrrell family run wine operation. It has driven their many successes such as the release of Vat 47 in 1971, Australia's first commercial Chardonnay, and ownership of Australia's most awarded white wine to date, Vat 1 Semillon.
Premium vineyards extend from their legendary home in the Hunter Valley to other distinguished grape growing regions of Australia including Heathcote – Victoria, McLaren Vale – South Australia and the Limestone Coast – South Australia. They also source premium grapes from selected vineyards in Western Australia.
"Tyrrell's is an outstanding wine company, the quality and depth of its portfolio is impressive"
Huon Hooke 2008 – One of Australia's foremost wine writers
Andrew Caillard of the prestigious Langton's wine auctioneers says Tyrrells is "one of Australia's great family winemakers with a history and heritage that is inextricably linked to the evolution of the modern day wine industry. The family has, over the years, produced a stellar portfolio of award-winning wines – they've bagged 192 medals and 74 trophies to date, among them important international wine show awards."
